As well as being Child Focused and Teacher Driven, there is another absolutely vital element to any successful reading program – Fun!

Here are five things that help make reading fun:

  • Look for bright colors, entertaining illustrations and stunning
    photography throughout every book.
  • Ensure the program offers a variety of genres – traditional tales, fables, fiction and informational.
  • Boys need excitement – look for modern, intriguing topics with plenty of visual action on every page.
  • Children love meeting new friends – a good program will introduce a variety of characters who return at higher reading levels.

You’ll find every item featured in my Checklist for a Successful PreK-3 Literacy Program is well and truly checked by the Red Rocket Readers Series.
